Food Stand Information:

Why are we going to each club?

Food stand funds the activities that all 4-Hers participate in.

It funds the award and trips (pins, medals, ribbons, trips)

    Helps with county camp cost.
How is Your club Important?

By working your assigned time we have enough staff to keep the food
     stand operating smoothly.

Each 4-Her is expected to do their time in the food stand.  WE don’t ask
for dues, fundraisers during the year,  This is the one and only fundraiser that
the council does.  You are expected to work your shift.

You are the reason this program is able to function. WE have one fundraising time each year and this is it.  You are the cogs that make this wheel work.  However there are a few things that all workers need to know:

BE ON TIME TO YOUR SHIFT.

If you don’t get there on time- the group before you can’t leave or if you are the first shift of the day the stand doesn’t get to open on time.  We’ve divided the times more evenly- all clubs will work at least 4 and ½ hours.  Before it was a 3, 4 or 6 hour shift.  Don’t leave until you are excused to go by the food stand manager.  Adults are needed to run the fryers, grill and cash registers.  4-Hers will man the serving line, drink line and do clean up and wipe tables.

COME TO WORK CLEAN:

Don’t wear the shirt you just washed your animal in.  Be clean and presentable-you Re representing Jo. Co. 4-H and your club.  Wear you club 5-shirt or fair shirt or other 4-H shirt. Have on closed toed shoes—no flip flops or sandals or croks.  This is for your protection as well as a health code standard.  Wear a hat or visor- we have plastic ones that have been in the food stand for years and worn by hundreds of kids- so if you don’t want to wear one of those wear your own hat.  This is a health code regulation as well.

WASH YOUR HANDS:

 Before starting your shift

 Before touching food

After blowing nose or coughing

After touching mouth or hair

After going to the restroom

After touching raw meat, poultry or eggs

After handling soiled dishes

After handling money

As Hands become soiled from working

 WEAR GLOVES:

Gloves need to be worn by certain workers only.  These are the ones that will be directly touching ready to eat food—example adults assembling the sandwiches etc. and 4-Hers fixing the pretzels or other easy items.

Wash your hands before putting on the gloves.

Put on gloves only when you are ready to handle ready to eat foods

Use gloves for only one task

If there is an interruption use clean gloves when you come back

Dispose of the gloves immediately upon removal

Gloves are susceptible to contamination so discard if soiled or damaged

If possible use tongs or utensils to handle food as first choice.

 OTHER STUFF:

When you report to your shift- you will work with someone from the previous shift to help you get orientated.

Each 4-H or Adult who works at least 2 hours will get a free drink coupon for tea, lemonade or cherry limeade—there will be sign in sheets

We are going to have better accounting of the money this year.  Adults only will work the cash register0 we are working on getting a bar code reader to make it go faster and this will give us a better reading of daily sales and useage.

There will be specific duties that need to be preformed during each shift, such as wiping down tables, taking out trash, refilling condiments, sweeping floor etc.

Adults will also be responsible for helping to keep track of food temsp- they will be posted and logs available

We will have a drink only window at both the main and arena food stand

We will have a floating drink and sweet stand on Thursday, Friday and Saturday evenings.

The benches will not be used in the food stand area this year.  They will be used on the fair grounds.  We will have regular chairs and tables.

We will be having a couple of helpers for the food stand again this year- watch for details in the July clover clips.

Drink coupons are available:  10 coupons for $10. Regular cost for the tea, lemonade and cheery limeades are $1.25 so you will be saving money on these cost.  They will be available at the ext office, from a food stand committee and at the next co. council so bring your money for these.  Checks made out to county council.

Ambassadors and Jr. Leaders are not assigned a specific time however they are expected to step up and help if there is a need in the food stands.  Please listen for announcements on the fair loud speakers.  This is part of your leadership role and responsibility.

On Monday Aug 3 two adult leaders are expected from each club to work the food stand from 4:30pm- 11:00 to cover the dog show.  This will also be the orientation time for the clubs community leaders or designated representative so they will be able to function as shift leaders for your club.  The time will be split so not all leaders will need to be there at 4:30- some will be there half way through the shift.  Sharon club is working the arena stand so this does not apply to you.

Also each club will need to send 2 adults to help with post fair clean up of the food stands.  Your club will be able to determine who will be your representative.
